2022/23 BTEC Level 2 Academic Year

We are pleased to announce that applications for our 22/23 BTEC Level 2 Academic Year are now open!

CVQO’s BTEC Level 2 is aimed at 16-19 year old (year 12 and upwards) members of the UK’s Cadet Forces and youth organisations. The qualification recognises all of the skills and achievements they gain in their youth groups, looks fantastic as a CV booster and can often make the difference when applying for further education or employment.

Learners will have the ability to choose their own path through the qualification, as well as the method by which they complete it.

BTEC Level 2 Train the Trainer, IAG and unit delivery sessions

Our new BTEC Level 2 Train the Trainer sessions have proved immensely popular. They are intended to give you the tools you need to deliver the BTEC Level 2 to your young people.

The overall aim of the sessions is to:

  • validate entry requirements, the induction procedure and cover advice/guidance to cadets during enrolment
  • discuss the core units to be studied
  • demonstrate how CVQO Online is used to record evidence, review feedback and submissions
  • summarise delivery resources available to support the delivery of Unit 1
  • show you how to use CVQO VLE Moodle as a VQO and as a learner

In addition, we continue to offer our virtual Zoom tutorials for all VQOs and learners who are studying a BTEC Level 2. You can find the full programme of tutorials, IAG (Initial Advice and Guidance) sessions on our website here.

Moodle VLE relaunch and new teaching materials

During the past six months, we have made some major improvements in the way we record learner progress using CVQO Online and we have relaunched our VLE Moodle package for the BTEC Level 2.

Learners can now access a selection of interactive learning packages that mirror our paper and electronic workbooks, ensuring consistency across the BTEC Level 2 learning experience.

We have also created VQO/tutor friendly delivery resources for all eleven written workbook units (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14). These will be released gradually on our website so that all VQOs can access with ease here.

CVQO Westminster Award 2022

Our 2022 CVQO Westminster Award was a hugely memorable one. It was also the first time since 2018 we were able to successfully run our traditional selection event before the summer expedition.

In the summer of 2022, our lucky 15 CVQO Westminster Award finalists travelled to Cornwall for two weeks of adventure and volunteering.

The theme of our expedition was ‘Think global, act local’. What we meant by that is that it is important to consider the overall impact of our actions on the planet, while realising that change can start on a local level – even on a grassroots scale, anyone has the power to make a positive impact.

We worked with six partner organisations to deliver the experience. These were: ShelterBox, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Surfers Against Sewage, The Eden Project, The Wave Project and The National Trust.

We will be opening nominations for the 2023 Award in November! Keep your eyes on the CVQO website and social media channels for more info.

Summer Camp visits

The CVQO team was busy across the summer, visiting Summer Camps all around the UK and helping to enrol cadets on our BTEC Level 2 qualification.

In total, we visited the following ACF Counties: Kent, Surrey, Devon, Cornwall, Hants and IOW, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Beds & Herts, Greater London, SE London, City of London, Middlesex and NW London, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire, Essex, Clwyd and Gwynedd, Gwent and Powys, Cheshire, Cleveland, Northumbria, Yorkshire and Greater Manchester!

And finally…

As always, thank you for all that you do for CVQO. Without your support and dedication, we simply could not reach the many thousands of young people that we do each year. If you are interested in helping us deliver our qualifications in the UK, please do get in touch with your uniformed youth organisation or drop us a message directly via the website.
